Circa 19th century George Woodhead Sheffield bowie knife that features a 6 - 7/8" clip point blade with a 4 - 3/4" false edge. The obverse is completely decorated with beautifully etched panels that depict patriotic motifs. The blade is marked "G. WOODHEAD SHEFFIELD" just beneath the spine. The etched pane is mostly unmolested with clear motifs and phrases. Scattered freckling and blemishes are noted on either side of the blade. Nickel silvered crossguard with nice patina. Buffalo horn grip scales are held in place with 7 pins on each side, which highlight the shape of the coffin style handle. The grip scales exhibit scattered cracks and repairs. Silvered escutcheon on obverse side. Complete with its Moroccan leather scabbard that features tooled decorations around the borders. Silvered mounts with oval stud on throat and round chape. Light dents to mounts with nice patina. CONDITION: Good.
