3rd Model rifle manufactured circa late 1869. The 24" octagonal barrel features a pair of engraved bands at the muzzle, as well as panels of scroll and punch dot engraving near the nose cap, applied after leaving the factory. German silver Rocky Mountain front sight and ladder sight graduated to 1000 yards. Iconic brass frame. Plain walnut forend with sling swivel brass nose cap. Straight grip walnut stock with sling swivel. Brass crescent tool trap rifle butt plate marked internally with the last four digits of the serial number. CONDITION: Good. Barrel finish has thinned to an even brown gray patina. Brass exhibits a mellow mustard patina. Forend is has a large split near the center. Smaller splits present along the top edges with a section of loss on the left side at the nose cap. Stock has a worn, aged appearance with bruising throughout. Strong bore with some mild black powder oxidation. Fair mechanics.
