Manufactured by John Lingard in Sheffield, England circa 1840s-1850s. Lingard was known as one of the "Little Mesters", small time knife makers located in Sheffield. These artisans often ran their blade-making businesses out of their homes, unlike the large factory firms that were beginning to appear in Sheffield. This knife features a 6 - 3/4" clip point blade with a 3" false edge. Obverse ricasso is marked "J. LINGARD / PEACHCROFT / SHEFFIELD". Blade exhibits a gray patina with scattered freckling and blemishes. German silver crossguard with repair to right side. Ivory grip scales exhibit a nicotine patina and are firmly secured by 4 pins on each side. There are a few cracks around the pins, and an "X" was carved on the reverse scale. German silver pommel matches the patina to the guard. Complete with its tooled leather sheath with German silver fittings. Drag has a dent and the throat retains its original stud. Scabbard exhibits blemishes around the edges with nice patina to mounts. CONDITION: Good.
