Circa 1840s, rare silver mounted maker marked New Orleans style American Bowie knife and sheath. 15 - 1/2" overall, 10 - 1/4" curved blade. Uniquely shaped blade is 1/4" thick at the ricasso and 1 - 1/2" wide, with wide flat median ridge that terminates in a 4 - 1/4" false edge. Silver crossguard with acorn style finials. French style script lettering on spine, 'Manufactured for F.C. Goergen New Orleans'. Acid etch rope bordered large panel on right hand side reads 'Judges Lynch's Law'. One piece ebony grip with deep cross and rays carved design. Simple stylized pistol grip silver pommel with scroll/nautilus shell decoration and silver fluted hilt. Correct and original back stitched heavy leather scabbard shaped to fit the blade with faint incised geometric decoration on the face with silver mounts, throat, and frog stud. A rare knife. CONDITION: Very good. Blade face cleaned on both sides and sharpened. Some scattered light typical discoloration and mossing. Blade is tight to handle with no wobble.
