Samuel Wragg was a highly regarded bowie knife maker who crafted knives in Sheffield, England during the 1830s-1840s. He is most notably known for his folding knives, but this large bowie knife is also an incredible example of Wragg's work. This knife features a large 9 - 3/4" flared clip point blade with a 3 - 1/4" false edge. The original factory polish still shines and the maker mark "MADE FOR THE UNITED STATES BY SAMUEL C WRAGG / DIRK KNIFE MAKER NO 25 FURNACEHILL SHEFFIELD" remains bold. Silvered S-shaped crossguard with light patina and exceptional popcorn stag grip scales that exhibit handling wear. Obverse scale exhibits a wide eye shaped escutcheon. Each grip scale is held in place by 5 pins. Complete with its correct Moroccan leather sheath that features tooled scrollwork designs on around the edges. Silvered mounts with circular carry stud on the throat. Leather body with scuffs and wear at the edges with light patina to mounts. 15 - 1/4" overall. CONDITION: Very good.
