Lot consists of 2 copies of The System for the Discipline of the Artillery of the United States , or, the Young Artillerist's Pocket Companion, Volume I, New York, Printed by William A. Davis for the Author, William Stevens, 1797. First Edition. Smith was a captain of artillery during the American Revolution under General John Lamb. Intended as the first volume of a 3-volume work, the subsequent volumes of which were never issued. William Rollinson, a line and stipple engraver in New York, executed the plates. 6 - 3/4" x 4 - 1/4" each. Both with leather covers, 1 copy missing the back cover. Blemishes typical of leather exhibited on the covers, copy with both covers is very good with nice intact pages and plates. Copy missing rear cover exhibits tearing of some pages. Each book exhibit varying degrees of soiling, foxing, and other blemishes typical of old books. A nice set of books covering early United States Artillery. CONDITON: Fair-good.
