Nice example of a Society of the Cincinnati Medal. Insignia of the Society of the Cincinnati began in 1783 as a hereditary society of officers of the Continental Army. Gold eagle with center medallion with Cincinnatus at sunrise and surrounding motto: "SOCIETAS CINCINNATORUM INSTITUTA A D 1783", reverse medallion depicts three senators presenting a sword to Cincinnatus with surrounding motto: "OMNIA RELINQUIT. SERVARE REMPUBLICAM" (He left everything to serve the Republic). Medal measures approximately 1 - 1/2" x 7/8". Attached to blue and white ribbon with white soiling throughout. Tests for 14K gold, 20 grams. CONDITION: Good.
