Winchester 21s are notorious for their non-sequential dates, and this example was probably made sometime in the 1940s. Combination dovetail and chopper lump barrels with Bradley-style white composite front sight and steel mid-bead on a matted concave rib. Left side over chambers with "WINCHESTER - 12 GAUGE / 2 3/4 CHAM". Barrel flats with Winchester proofs, serial number, tubes with "Winchester Proof Steel" marking and marked for "WS-1" in right barrel and "WS-2" in left; right choke has been significantly opened up and is no longer restricted at all. Beavertail forearm with typical Winchester cheering and roller release, marked with matching serial number on interior of iron and in wood. Action flats with Winchester information and patent dates, PW proof, and "MODEL 21" destination. Marked "SKEET" ahead of trigger guard. Single mechanical trigger with blade mounted selector, non-automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid in gold ahead of slide. Partially feather crotched walnut pistol grip stock with Winchester pistol grip cap with sidepanels, two panels of point pattern checkering about the wrist, and a checkered butt. CONDITION: Barrels have been subject to a rebluing, probably when choke was reamed out, with some areas of spotted mossing and fine oxidation, mostly about the forearm. Action with approximately half of the blue remaining, with carry area and trigger guard tang worn almost totally to silver, with some bluing in recessed areas, and some fine mossing and pitting to edges. Forearm is very good with one chip missing on right lip, internal, stock is good with some handling marks and impressions throughout, most notable at sidepanel, and some varnish lifting around pistol grip cap. Mechanically fine, ejectors are strong but out of time, left fires first, bore is very good, smooth and bright.
