Kopec's letter, dated June 2013, states that this revolver falls between numbers 131446 and 131642 and that cited examples were issued to Troop D, 8th Cavalry as of May 19th, 1890. Colt letter states this gun shipped to the US government on April 30th, 1890, in a shipment of 300 guns. The sub inspector RAC (Rinaldo A. Carr) stamps can be found on the base of the barrel, on the frame, and on the back of the cylinder. It is also stamped in cursive on the right grip panel. The left panel cartouche stamp is dated 1890 and SEB in cursive for Stanhope E. Blunt. There is a K stamp on the trigger guard and butt. There is the proof P stamp under the barrel and on the cylinder. Finish is standard blue and case color with one piece walnut grips. The top of the barrel bears the one line Colt address legend. The left side of the frame is stamped with the three line patent date and US. CONDITION: Excellent. John documents that this gun was once in the collection of Capt. Willian Peterson and that he kept his guns stored in grease. John further notes that this gun is 100% correct and that this "revolver remains today in unfired condition". The barrel retains at least 90% original blue, thinning near muzzle with light handling. The housing outer side has turned silver with most of the blue intact on top. The cylinder retains majority of blue in flutes with balance a nice smooth blend of light blue and patina. The trigger guard and front strap retain 70% blue with scattered handling marks. The back strap is patina with blue at top. The screws are true and retain the majority of fire blue. The hammer shows fading case color. The frame retains some case color, mostly in protected areas with balance having patterned out. The grips are excellent with razer sharp cartouche stamps. The action is tight with all four clicks. Rifling is sharp with some residue. One of the better examples.
