The factory letters this gun as shipped to George Keyes, brother of Captain A.S.B. Keyes, who purchased a group of 47 condemned Colts to replace those lost by his brother, as replacements. There is a letter explaining the entire process by John Kopec included. The factory letter lists the sale and shipment of this gun on June 4th, 1885 as a .45 caliber with barrel length unlisted, blue finish, and unlisted stocks, sent in a shipment of 47 guns. This gun has the "DFC" (David Clark) stamp under the barrel, on the cylinder and on the frame. There is a proof "P" stamped under barrel and on cylinder as well. The "C" for condemned is stamped on frame above "DFC". Gun has matching numbers on barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The cylinder number is 0402. Assembly number on loading gate is 3557. The one piece walnut grips are finished in military oil with a visible "DFC" cartouche on right panel. Finish is blue with a case color frame and hammer. The not listed stocks are standard walnut and not listed barrel length is 7 1/2, both standard at the time. The top of the barrel has the one line Colt legend. Left side of frame has three line patent date. Caliber is not listed on the left side and is only found on the trigger bow. The ejector head is donut style. CONDITION: Fine. The frame retains at least 50% color on both sides, some bright. The hammer still retains 80% color on both sides. The barrel exhibits some blue near front sight and on the area around the housing as well as on housing recess. The trigger guard has some strong blue at forward face while the back strap shows finish at top. The cylinder retains strong blue in the flutes. The balance of gun is a smooth patina with some light age freckling. The grips have usual base wear and impressions. The action has four strong clicks. The rifling is strong with scattered abrasions. Great condition for a documented condemned single action.
