Manufactured 1859. Government inspected and stamped US issue third model with all matching numbers on frame, barrel, cylinder, trigger guard, back strap, loading lever, wedge, and post. Inspector stamps include: "B-G" on left side trigger guard, "K-T" on cylinder, "T" on top and left side of barrel, "K" on back strap. Right side walnut grip panel has the "WAT" cartouche for Wm. A. Thornton. Left grip panel has the "ADK" cartouche for Andrew D. King, a subinspector from 1850-1865, who inspected the US 3rd Model Dragoons from serial number 18200-18300. The top of the barrel has the one line Colt New York city address. Left side of frame has the Colts Patent stamp with "U.S". The cylinder has the W.L. Ormsby roll die USMR Texas Ranger and Indian battle scene. Standard finish is blue and case color with brass trigger guard and back strap. German silver front sight blade. CONDITION: Very good. Crisp gun. Cylinder scene is visible, sharp in some areas and thinning in others. Original nipples but pins are flat. Barrel and frame legends are sharp. Brass has been cleaned at one time. No visible original finish but now a homogenous patina. Most of the screws are true with minor peening. Grips are excellent, a bit shy in spots, all cartouche stamps are legible. Action indexes properly. Rifling is bold with some abrasion. Overall, a very clean, handsome Civil War era Dragoon.
