The factory letter states that this revolver was shipped on October 30th, 1893, as a .45 Colt with 3 - 1/2" barrel, blue finish, and unlisted stocks, sent to Dunlay & Geisler, Houston, Texas, care of J. F. Dyers, Richmond, Indiana, in a one gun shipment. Early Western era so-called sheriff's model Colt single actions are among the most coveted of all single actions. They were made without any ejector rod. The one piece pearl grips feature a carved steer head on the right side and were probably applied by the retailer, as this was a popular motif in Texas at that time. Gun has matching numbers on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. Top of barrel has short two line Colt address. Left side of barrel is stamped .45 Colt. Left side of frame has two line patent dates with pony in circle. CONDITION: Fine. The cylinder retains the majority of bright blue in the flutes. All of the case colors on frame and hammer have darkened. The screws are true and retain flashes of blue. The balance of finish is a butter smooth patina. All legends are crisp. The pearl grips have toned with some minor scaling. The action is robust with all four clicks. Rifling is strong with some residue. Sheriff models are usually found in fairly rough condition and this is far better than average, clean and crisp.
