Kopec states in his letter dated June 28, 2013 that this Ainsworth era frame falls within Lot 5 (4500-5504) of which many were sent to the US Seventh Cavalry on July 2, 1874. John goes on to say describe the conditions of arsenal program which " during 1893, most of those Cavalry revolvers which had served during the Indian wars were recalled by Ordnance where they were subsequently returned to the Springfield Armory to be refurbished "cleaning, repair and alterations" The barrels were shortened to 5 1/2", front sights reset, and assembled using parts in good condition, usually with no regard to serial numbers. They were then inspected and stamped by Carr. This example has the barrel stamped RAC and proof P. The cylinder is stamped RAC. The frame is number 4826. The trigger guard and butt are number 134089 and butt has the K ( Mr. A. Kind) stamp. The one piece walnut grips have RAC stamped at base of both panels. The barrel and cylinder were new replacement parts and bear no serial number. The right grip shows a faint script RAC cartouche and the date 1903 , the year it was finished. Gun was finished in standard blue and case color. The barrel has the one line Colt address. The frame has the two line patent date with US. CONDITION: Very good.
