Circa 1901. A vintage game gun with 30” nitro proofed brown Damascus steel barrels. Barrels are fit with ejectors, 2 – 1/2” chambers and dollshead rib extension. Rib is concave and tapering, fit with a steel front bead sight. Rib is marked “2” in gold near breech. Rib reads “WESTLEY RICHARDS 178 NEW BOND ST LONDON”. Bottoms of barrels marked “16110”. Barrel flats marked “LP 82”, ".740”, "12", ”NITRO PROOF”, "3 TONS”, "2 1/2”, “1 1/8” and “BSA NY”. Droplock action is scalloped and with full coverage tight scroll. “WESTELY RICHARDS” in banner on exterior walls. Action is built to accommodate dollshead extension, and fit with the Westley Richards ejector top lever system. Top lever is blacked, engraved and bears a gold number “2”. Safe slide is blacked, serrated, and scored. “SAFE” is gold. Action flats stamped “DEELEYS PATENT", ”EJECTOR”, ”A1179”, ”PATENT 17731”, ”1897 232”. Double triggers protected by a blacked game scene engraved trigger guard that extends through a 3/4 length bottom strap. Bottom strap engraved with scrolls and serial number. Handsome reddish brown fiery grained English straight hand gripped walnut stock has a silver oval engraved “WBL” and finished by a serrated horn butt plate. Splinter forend with sharp checkering is fit with a horn dovetailed tip and an engraved Deeley latch release. Release bears a gold number “2”. Iron metal is engraved with scroll. Interior iron metal has traces of case colors and wood bears the guns serial number. Gun lives in a vintage oak and leather case with brass corners. Case lid reads “HPW” on top. Inner lid with vintage “WESTELY RICHARDS & Co” paper trade label with matching address. Case supplied with cleaning rod, cleaning accessories, snap caps, and extra leather covered pad. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels are very good inside and out. Action, triggers and ejectors function well with snap caps. Stock is very good with some minor handling marks and horn plate is slightly smaller than butt. Forend is very good. Case is good for its age.
