Between 1856-59, 14182 in stock 1842 musket were altered at Springfield & Harpers Ferry by rifling the barrels; some also had long range rear sights added. This is one of those alterations with both rifling and sights added. The Springfield lock is dated 1852 with US eagle. Tang is dated 1846. Left side of 42" barrel has eagle head proofs. Standard 1842 features include full length walnut stock, all iron hardware and furniture, three bands, two swivels, metal rod, bayonet lug under barrel CONDITON: Very good. All metal is smooth brown patina. Wood is very good, numerous scattered dings and impressions with small chip on right side near breech. Several kill scores around rear sight on both sides, no visible cartouche stamps on stock. Action works correctly. Nipple broken. Rifling is defined with abrasion.
