Per an included factory letter, this fabulous special order New Departure shipped out August 24, 1893 to a Charles Barhite Jr., whose name is factory engraved on the left side plate. As is noted by a copy of a letter of provenance, the gun remained in the family until 2012 and was sold by his great, great grandson. Gun features full factory gold wash, the trigger guard left blue. Factory style 4 engraving executed by Oscar Young with fine punch dot shaded folate scroll, approximately 50% coverage. Grips are factory mother of pearl without medallions. Factory letter confirms special order configuration, including finish and engraving. CONDITION: Excellent. Approximately 90%+ original gold with some wear on the left side of the frame, loss on the front sight, and mild flaking, specially in the engraving. Trigger guard retains nearly all of its factory blue with mild edgewear. Strong case colors displayed on the hammer sides. Grips are excellent. Strong and bright bore with only light cleaned oxidation spots. Fine mechanics. An outstanding and very attractive Smith & Wesson.
