Manufactured 1941 per serial number, and shipped to Springfield Armory on June 28th, 1941; see "U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1920-1945" by Meadows. Half moon front sight has had some added yellow paint for visibility, flat top U notch rear sight. Left side of slide has two-line, two-block patent and address information with intercepting Colt pony. Barrel with "G" ahead of lug, "P" on left lug, and "COLT 45 AUTO" on lower left side of chamber. Top of frame has "G" and "R.S." in a lozenge near disconnector. R.S. proof also stamped onleft side of frame under slide release, and is for Colonel Robert Sears. "P" proof near magazine release, left side of trigger guard with "VP" proof and what looks to be a "P", right with "60" proof. Right sid of frame with model designation ahead of slide release, US property mark behind release, and serial number. Interestingly, the last "9" digit appears to have been restruck at the factory, possibly due to a weak initial stamp, as the condition of the pistol does not indicate a refinish. Small parts comprise checkered spurred hammer, thick tab safety, checkered slide release, short checkered trigger, checkered magazine release, long A1 grips safety, and arched knurled mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Fully blued magazine with "C" on baseplate lip. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the factory bluing with some very minor handling marks, and some silvering to high edges, including at muzzle, consistent with holster wear. Frame with takedown mark, and distension about proofs from application of stamp. Plunger tube possibly replaced as the condition is not commensurate with the rest of the gun. Mechanically fine, bore is excellent, bright, with strong rifling and some mild frosting at grooves.
