Manufactured 1912 per serial number, shipped in a shipment of 500 to Springfield Armory, Massachusetts, on September 11th, 1912: see Meadows "U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1894-1920". Half moon front sight, round top U notch rear sight. Left side of slide with two-line two-block patent and address information, with encircled Rampant Colt at rear. Right side with "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY". "H" stamped horizontally on the top of the firing pin retaining plate channel. Barrel with "3" ahead of lug and a horizontal "H" on rear lip of hood. Frame with US property marking on left side of dust cover, and intertwined WGP for Walter G. Penfield, right side with serial number on the right side of the dust cover. Small parts comprise checkered spurred hammer, thin tab safety with milled relief cut, checkered slide release with milled relief cut, long smooth trigger, checkered magazine release, short grip safety, and smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Truncated diamond walnut grips. Two tone magazine with dual pinned base. CONDITION: Very good, retaining virtually all of the factory bluing with some superficial handling marks and typical age related silvering throughout, and 2 areas of concentrated pitting and silvering on the left side of the slide, one at the muzzle and one over the Colt information. Two noticeable scratches at takedown, and between the information blocks on left side at slide. Straps are ver good, mixing with dove grey and a thin chocolate mossing. Mechanically fine, bore has mild frosting throughout and visible rifling.
