This is an excellent package with several pieces already papered by the NTHK-NPO. The blade is attributed to the third generation Hoki no Kami Nobutaka, a chujosaku rated smith working in the Enpo period. O-suriage mumei, with kiri yasurime. Jihada is itame, and hamon is a gunome-midare with a wide nioiguchi. Ko-maru boshi. Both sides with bo-hi horimono. The tsuba is signed ura Nakamura Haruhiro (kao), and omote Touto Jyu Myochin Ki Muneharu, Decorated with 5 plum blossoms, traditionally associated with the Maeda clan, of mixed metals on one side, and 3 on the other. One hitsu-ana plugged with gold. Late Edo koshirae is mumei, but the fuchi kashira are attributed to Yanagawa Naozumi, signed on the fuchi. Sayajiri appears to depict bundles of baleen mixed with mussels; NPO worksheet indicates that the faceted sections were accomplished by stripes of baleen. Fuchi and kashira with turtle motif, further adding to the aquatic theme. Kurikata with peony designs on a shakudo ground, menuki in the form of petals en suite with tsuba. CONDITION: Good, with a few small ware and some mossing that should be professionally addressed. In good polish with features visible throughout. Mounts are very good, saya appears to be relacquered, with clear definition and some minor marks. A wonderful package, with three sets of NTHK-NPO Kanteisho, and some additional research.
