Third Model saddle ring carbine manufactured circa 1871. Classic 20" round barrel chambered in .44 RF with full length magazine tube retained by a pair of barrel bands, blade front sight sight, rear carbine leaf, and partially legible 2-line address marking. Brass saddle ring receiver stamped on the underside with a crown over "EM" proof. Left side plate appears to be a replacement. Plain walnut forend and stock with unnumbered brass carbine trap butt plate. CONDITION: Good. Barrel and magazine display a silvery gray patina with some evidence of cleaned oxidation throughout. Frame exhibits an attractive mottled mellow golden patina. Left side plate is somewhat darker. Stocks appear cleaned with some scattered impressions and a split running along the underside of the forend. Butt plate has a period repair at heel screw. A period repair also present on the lower tang. Bore retains defined rifling with some abrasion and cleaned oxidation spots. Fine mechanics.
