Manufactured from 1896 into the 1930s. The blued No. 1 weight octagon to round barrel is marked with 2-line "J. STEVENS A. & T. CO." address, "'32.40" caliber designation, and, on the underside, the full serial number. Globe front sight and adjustable aperture short-range Vernier rear sight. Built on a case hardened Model 44 action with double set triggers and full loop lever. Action marked "49 0" on the front is very attractively etched with scrolls around central buck and goat motifs over a matted background. Checkered walnut Schnabel tipped forend inlaid with a US Army Corps of Engineers insignia and silver heart. Checkered pistol grip stock with cheekpiece and fancy Swiss butt plate. CONDITION: Very good overall. Barrel retains the vast majority of its factory blue, the forward portion starting to fade. Receiver case colors are strong with some mild loss. The lever has largely faded to patina. Stocks have only light handling marks. Bore is good with well-defined rifling. Fine mechanics, including set trigger. Vernier sight elevation adjustment is broken. A fine example of one of the finest rifles Stevens put to market.
