Relief carved throughout with village scenes, with children fishing and flying kites, playing (one appears to be a young samurai with his own sword thrust through his belt), merchants, geisha, and florals. Many mounts are pieced together ivory, but this appears to be made of two pieces, one for the handle and one for the saya; signed near geisha at bottom. Shobuzukuri tanto out of polish, and no pin was located for disassembly. Kozuka appears to be of a more recent vintage, and is signed on reverse. CONDITION: Very good, with a few handling marks and black lines common to ivory, but solid and free of cracks. Kozuka handle has one crack across face. Most ivory mounts are of somewhat lesser quality, but this one has plenty of intricate detail, well executed. Tanto out of polish with surface level scratchings throughout.
