Circa 1876. Blued 3 - 1/4" octagon barrel with etched panel reading "COLT NEW 22", embellished with zig-zag and punch dot engraving, which continues onto the blued cylinder. Nickel finished spur trigger frame likewise engraved with punch dot shaded foliate scrolls and other embellishments. Engraving appears to be of Helfrict's shop, a nearly identical example pictured on page 271 of "Colt Engraving" by Wilson. Revolver sports an attractive pair of bird's head mother-of-pearl grips. Gun is accompanied by a period French fit leatherette case with 8 rounds of ammunition. Red satin case lid liner retailer marked in gold "COGSWELL & HARRISON / Gunmakers / 226 Strand & (?) New Bond Street". CONDITION: Very fine. Barrel and cylinder retain the majority of their factory blue with a strong etched panel. Nearly all of the factory nickel is retained with only light flaking. Screws display strong traces of fire blue. Grips are excellent. Very good, strong and bright bore. Crisp mechanics. Case is very good with some leather scuffing. A lovely set.
