The consignor states that this sword came from a Colonial house in New Jersey. Slightly curved, unfullered single-edged American blade. Heavy iron stirrup hilt with eight piercings on guard, alternating circles and rectangles around blade. Spiraling wood grip wrapped with brown leather. Iron high-domed pommel. Guard made in the James Potter style with an integral ring at the back of the knucklebow that attaches behind the grip. CONDITION: Blade retains a heavy brown patina with several deep "battle nicks" to cutting edge. Hilt retains a very dark matching patina with traces of copper and yellow polychrome paints which appear to have been from the period. Grip shows large areas of losses to leather wrap. A very nice American cavalry saber.
