A pleasing example of William "Bill" Scagel's craftsmanship in the form of this large bowie style knife that features a 8 - 1/4" blade with an overall length of 14". The blade features a swept spine with clip point and ricasso marked "W. SCAGEL / HANDMADE" in small lettering. A pleasing dark gray patina is exhibited throughout the blade's length with scattered freckling and evidence of older sharpening, as this knife was most likely used by an avid outdoorsman. Oval brass pommel is stamped "A.R. JOHNSTON.". Stacked leather washer grip with red and black spacers meet a large horn pommel with brass cap and exposed tang. The handle exhibits handling wear with chips in a few of the spacers. The knife is complete with its equally large scabbard that features nice leather engravings and decorative brass tacks on the front. 2 rows of stitching remain tight border the decorative tacks and remains tight. Massive leather belt loop remains intact with light creasing. Scabbard remains supple overall with scattered scuffs and scratches with patina to tacks. A great example of a Scagel knife. CONDITION: Good.
