Only approximately 6,000 so-called Wells Fargo Model 1849 Pockets were manufactured with 3" barrels and no loading lever. This example was manufactured circa 1853 and features a faint 2-line New York address, pin front sight, hammer notch rear, cylinder rolled with stagecoach holdup scene, silver plate grip straps, and 1-piece varnished walnut grips. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Very good overall. Significant traces of faded blue present on barrel mixing with brown patina. Cylinder scene largely legible. Frame is also largely silvery patina with some faint case color patterning. Nearly all of the silver plating is retained on the grip straps with some thinning along the high edges. Grips are very fine with some scattered impressions and light finish loss. Strong, frosted bore. Mechanically fine. Matching full or partial serial numbers observed throughout. Wedge is a replacement.
