This cadet style rifle is built with a shortened "1863" dated and "NJ" New Jersey surcharged National Armory bright barrel with muzzle turned down to accept bayonet and replacement lug front sight. Very unusual "1867" dated lockplate which appears to be for one of the 424 Model 1867 trapdoor cadet rifles produced by Springfield. Stock is a shortened "NJ" surcharged musket stock retained by 2 barrel bands. Complete with bayonet. Consignor states this particular arm was acquired from a museum collection as is labeled with a tack mounted "1867" stamped brass tag. CONDITION: Fair.
