Manufactured in 1853 per serial number. Matching serial numbers on all major components, including wedge and loading lever. 7 - 1/2" barrel marked one-line "ADDRESS SAM'L COLT NEW YORK CITY". Blue with case-hardened frame, loading lever and hammer. Silver plated brass trigger guard and backstrap. One-piece burl walnut grips with piano finish. Engraved in Gustave Young style featuring Germanic scrolls on a punch dot background. Wolfs head motif on hammer. Gothic dog motif on left barrel lug. Left side of frame hand engraved "COLTS PATENT". Scroll engraving on barrel muzzle and barrel lug. Scroll engraving on frame, hammer, trigger guard, and backstap. All screw heads and wedge are engraved. CONDITION: Excellent+ overall. Barrel is a very pleasing, thinning blue turning to patina overall. Nearly all bright case color on back of hammer. The frame, loading lever, and balance of hammer have traces of case color turning a gunmetal grey patina. 97-98% original silver plating on trigger guard and backstrap. Burl walnut grips have most all of the piano finish showing little wear. Cylinder is excellent plus showing a strong W.L. Ormsby naval battle scene with 15-20% original blue turning a blue/brown patina overall. Overall an extremely clean and attractive 1851 Navy.
