Circa 1760-1800 classic style American Indian ball club. Club measures 17 - 1/2" overall terminating in a 3" burl ball with a 1 - 1/2" pewter anchored triangular spike. Most likely Eastern Woodland, club exhibits evenly flowing lines typical of the recognized form. Handle is drilled in three separate places for adornments, wrist strap, or drop. Under magnification, these holes show appropriate age and natural wear. Triangular end of handle shows typical period liner carving that is commonly found on ball and gunstock clubs from this geographical area. CONDITION: Very good. Appropriate age and patina overall. Small partial crack on left hand base of burl that shows evidence of very old wood or animal glue applied at some point.
