Manufactured 1912. Cattle brand guns reportedly originated sometime during the 1930s with Texas engraver Cecil Coe “Cole” Agee (1901-1955). Since that time, they have become one of the most requested type of engraving for custom revolvers and pistols. This example is not signed but is masterfully done. The barrel consists of over a dozen cattle ranch brands. The background consists of hundreds of tight punch dots. The shield and gate are engraved with a "P" and a "T". The back strap is engraved with "IXI". The balance of frame displays some light engraving of borders, checkerboard patterns, stars, and leaves. The cylinder has brands on each flat. The cylinder, pin, hammer, and trigger are gold washed with balance of gun nickeled. The grips are two piece ivory. All numbers are matching. The only remaining Colt legend is the two line patents and Colt pony on left side of frame. CONDITION: Excellent The gun retains virtually all of the custom finish and does not appear to have been used since it was embellished. The action is tight with all four clicks. Bore is bright. Grips are slightly toned.
