47cm nagasa, with a robust sugata, measuring 34.6mm at the mihaba and 8mm at the kasane. Shinogi zukuri, with a bo-hi, choji notare hamon, straightening at the boshi, which is ko-maru, nakago with kiri nakagojiri and katte agari yasurime. Jihada is ko-itame with chikei and ji nie, and there is conspicuous hataraki throughout the hamon, including sunagashi and nie; ura has a spot of tobiyaki at ura. Katanamei signed Yamato no Kami Yoshimichi, ura dated 9th year of Kanbun, and what looks to be 8th month, which would be August, 1669. NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho papers to shodai. Proportional silver foiled catscratch habaki, pierced iron tsuba, signed, with texture reminiscent of running water; one hitsu-ana plugged. Fuchi unsigned, with carving also reminiscentt of a creek, polished horn kashira, menuki with what appear to be aquatic motifs, with a deep aquamarine tsuka-ito. Roiro saya with an excellent kozuka depicting a shore scene, with a heron flying over waves, and trees accented with gold blossoms on a nanako ground, with a garden and rake; a small golden sail is seen in the distance. Kozuka with goma hashi, and deeply stamped on face, signed on rear. CONDITION: Excellent, in polish, with some very minor marks, mostly confined to the bohi, with features visible throughout. A strike to habaki on omote. Koshirae very good. A well presenting blade of large proportions. PROVENANCE: Purchased from Eric Molinier.
