During World War II, the USMC acquired approximately 750 of these semi automatic rifles, including some in this serial number block with A prefixes. Standard 23" barrel, protected blade front sight, and adjustable peep sight graduated to 1000 meters. Barrel bushing marked ".30-06" and "41" with a 7-row perforated heat shield. Bolt serial number matches, a rather unusual occurrence for these rifles, which were often assembled without regard to internal serial numbers. Receiver stamped on top with maker, model, and patent information, and with "CRANSTON / ARMS" logo at the rear. Standard 2-piece walnut stocks with a checkered steel butt plate. Butt plate stamped with "477" rack number. CONDITION: Very good overall. Significant portions of what appears to be the original finishes are retained throughout, starting to fade to patina with some expected wear. Stocks are very good with some scattered impressions. Bore retains strong rifling with frosting in the grooves. Fine mechanics. An honest, above-average example of an increasingly desirable WWII rifle.
