Rare first model, first variation blued open top in .44 M&H. Gun has matching serial number on frame, barrel, and cylinder. Assembly number 8235 on butt. Gun features the scoop flutes and red and black gutta percha saw handle grips. The barrel has proper address and patent legends on top and left side. With original lanyard ring and comes with a period unmarked flap holster (holster is a bit too large for this gun). CONDITION: Very good. The only remaining blue finish is protected within the scoops, balance of gun is a smooth grey-brown patina. Legends are all crisp. Grips are excellent. Bore is sharp but frosted. Action indexes and locks up tightly but the half cock loading notch is gone. There are less than a handful of blued first model open tops known as it is estimated that only 5% of all large frame Merwins were finished in blue. The holster is still solid and pliable.
