Manufactured in 1847 during the first year of production with low 3-didgit "110" serial number. The 4" blued octagon barrel is marked with earliest style left hand facing 2-line New York address without finials, as is found on the first 800 or so guns. Brass pin front sight and hammer notch rear. 5-shot cylinder with round stops a very legible Indian Fight scene rollmark. Case hardened frame with solid recoil shield. These recoil shields without cap cutouts are only found on very early guns, approximately the first 100. Classic plated brass squareback trigger guard and grip straps. Grips are 1-piece oil finished walnut. Revolver is housed in a very attractive and early Patterson style fitted mahogany case with beveled lid. Case also contains a correct 2-cavity brass Colt's Patent mold without grease grooves, correct early eagle motif Colt's Patent powder flask, and Eley cap tin. PROVENANCE: Ex G.W. "Bill" Stewart Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel assembly retains significant traces of thinning blued finish drifting to gray patina. Cylinder has turned to a pleasant gunmetal patina. Frame retains strong traces of case color with patterning visible throughout. Grip straps display the vast majority of their plating, the high edges thinned to golden brass. Grips are very fine with a few minor marks. Markings are crisp and legible. Matching numbers observed throughout. Strong, frosted bore. Crisp mechanics. Case has some expected surface wear and impressions, the liner remaining very good. Accessories rate good. A highly attractive and rare early cased Colt pocket.
