Lot consists of: (A) Regulation US 1833 pattern saber for enlisted dragoons. Modeled on the British 1822 pattern. Standard 1833 pattern hilt, blade, and scabbard. Blade etched "United States" over a leafy branch on reverse. Obverse etched "NP Ames / Cutler / Springfield / 1839" near base of blade. Inspector stamp "W.S." and "P.L." on quillon. CONDITION: Blade exhibits a gray patina with scattered freckling and blemishes. Light edge wear. Brass hilt exhibits a light patina. Brown leather grip wrap intact with areas of cracking. Half of the coiled wire is missing. Original leather blade pad. Scabbard complete with drag, rings, and throat, and exhibits a chocolate patina in areas. (B) Model 1850 Foot Officer's sword complete with its matching leather scabbard. The blade is adorned with etched decorations. Marked "W.G. MINTZER" on ricasso. Hilt features a solid brass guard with cutout oak leaf scrolls and acanthus leaves. Grip features a grooved, center-swelled wooden handle wrapped in shagreen. The skin is tightly bound to the grip with brass wire that fits neatly in the grooves of the handle. Scabbard is complete with original brass furniture. CONDITION: Blade exhibits a light patina with clear etchings. Light patina to guard with areas of shagreen loss to grip and tight wire. Scabbard remains firm with scattered blemishes and nice patina to mounts.
