This Luger has the 1918 dated chamber with Erfurt crown stamped on toggle. All visible matching numbers including inside of both grip panels and alloy base magazine. Pistol has numerous imperial German proof stamps. Standard blue finish, straw color small parts and checkered walnut grips. The front strap is stamped SWII.331 which is a post WWI Wiesbaden Police unit stamp. Wiesbaden was under the control of the French as early as 1918 and continued after the Versailles treaty. Under this treaty, a certain number of handguns were retained by the Germans for police use but France required that they have their should stock attachment removed so they could not be used as a carbine. This example was apparently a French oversight as the lug is still intact. This lot is accompanied by the book entitled German Police Markings by Maus along with some correspondence with the consignor and Maus regarding this pistol. CONDITION: Excellent. Both straps have faded to patina. The straw colors are still visible. Balance of metal retains most of the war time blue finish with overall high edge holster wear, light muzzle wear, along with some minor age freckles. Grips are very good with some minor dings. The bore is strong but frosted.
