Manufactured in 1918, this example comfortably falls within the known range of E613000 to E705000 for World War I government production and remains in classic configuration. Finished in standard blue, this shotgun is fitted with a correct 20" cylinder choked barrel with heat shield. The 6 row perforated heat shield bears early "PAT. APPL. FOR" marking above the bayonet lug. The right side of the solid frame is hand stamped with a "US" over a flaming bomb, as is similar to other known martially marked specimens. Corrugated walnut slide. Buttstock is plain walnut with rear sling swivel and checkered composite WRACO butt plate. Complete with 1917 dated 1907 leather sling and a very nice US martially marked and 1917 dated Winchester production bayonet with leather wrapped 1917 dated British scabbard and frog. CONDITION: Good with honest character. Strong traces of factory blue are retained, especially in the protected areas under the heat shield and above the bayonet lug, the balance fading to brown/gray patina. Wood has scattered dings and minor areas of finish loss, as well as a hairline split at the wrist. Bore is bright with minor areas of imperfections. Fine mechanics. Bayonet rates very good but has been sharpened. Leather shows age but remains largely supple. A nice, honest WWI trench gun.
