1,000 of these experiential 24" trapdoor carbines were manufactured in the 325,000 to 400,000 serial number range, and subsequently saw issue among active cavalry units in the West. Finished in blue with a correctly crowned barrel, pinned blade front sight, and "XC" marked Buffington rear sight graduated specifically for these carbines. "U.S. / MODEL / 1873" marked breech block. Standard lock plate with 3-click tumbler. Characteristic full length walnut stock. Mounts include forward barrel band with flush folding sling swivel, saddle ring bar, 2-piece trigger guard, rear sling swivel, and "US" marked trap butt plate. Tool trap retains broken case extractor tool and correct 3-piece wiping rod, each segment measuring 9 - 1/4". CONDITION: Good. The vast majority of the reapplied blued finish is retained throughout, some areas fading to brown with a few spots of cleaned oxidation. Stock has been sanded and reoiled. Very good, strong and bright bore. Fine mechanics.
