This slender Kutztown rifle features a smoothbore octagon barrel engraved "=I = GEORG=" on top flat in large block letters. Notched iron rear sight and brass front blade sight. Flat lockplate with beveled edges and step at tail, engraved with foliate designs and stamped "LONDON / WARRANTED" in center. The brass furniture includes an engraved four-piece patchbox with whale's tail finial and a large stylized "N" design as is often found on Jacob George rifles. Large ovoid cheekpiece engraved with eight-point star. Full sidplate engraved with border and the stylized "N". Engraved brass inlay on wrist and in center on top of comb. Engraved toeplate terminating in a head-shaped finial engraved with human features. Wearplate is engraved with an Indian or liberty head and begins in front of trigger guard bow and extends almost to the ramrod entry ferrule. Faceted brass ferrules. Partially figured tiger maple stock of slender Berks County, Pennsylvania form. Complete with an associated wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a mostly grey patina, signature is excellent. The lock retains a dark grey patina and is a reconversion but functions well. Brass shows a pleasing patina. Stock very good with some scattered marks from use.
