Manufactured between 1907 and 1915 in a fairly short run of approximately 15,000 guns, and considered to be one of the finest revolvers produced. Matching serial numbers on butt, cylinder and barrel. Assembly number 8666 on yoke and inside frame. Inside grip frame stamped "1258", which could be a return/refinish date for 12-1958 to the factory, no star. 6 - 1/2" configuration with fixed blade front sight on integral base, U notch rear sight across top strap, 5 screw frame, pinned barrel, and distinctive third locking point in yoke. Case colored hammer and trigger, balance blued. Covered in approximately 75% coverage of very well executed acanthus scroll with interwoven oak leaves and acorns on a stippled background. Cylinder engraved en suite, with flutes left bare. Unsigned, but of very good master-level quality. Two piece mother of pearl grips. CONDITION: Very good+ as reblued, probably at time of engraving. Some thinning to high traffic areas and sharp edges but still retaining virtually all of the bluing. Hammer and trigger with old inactive oxidation, and fading case colors, approximately 10%. Mother of pearl grips with excellent fire, with some chipping and losses towards bases. Mechanically fine, bore with strong rifling and scattered areas of oxidation. A well engraved example of a desirable Smith & Wesson.
