Large KGB shield that measures approximately 67" x 32" x 3". The consigner states that it came into their possession when their father used to bring German relatives to the US for the summer to work. The Germans would pay for their stays in the US and one of the families offered the shield as payment in exchange for lodging. The story they provided was that one of the boy's father worked for either a telephone or electric company when the Berlin Wall was taken down and when he went in to remove equipment from the KGB offices near Berlin, he also salvaged the shield. After hiding it for about 10 years he shipped it to America with his son. The wording on the shield was translated and reads "Special Operations." The consigner also states that the star was painted red by their father. The shield is constructed of cast aluminum and presents well with minor blemishes and a light patina throughout. CONDITION: Very good.
