This rifle is accompanied by a copy of a letter from Steve Hench dated March 8, 2013. The letter details the attributed of the rifle and information on the Young family of gunsmiths. The rifled barrel features a patent breech and is unmarked. Front brass blade sight and rear iron notched sight. Lockplate engraved at tail with game birds, center stamped "H.R.". Engraved two-piece brass patchbox with horse head finial. Engraved brass wrist repair. Shaped silver cheekpiece and corresponding silver keyhole escutcheons on both sides of forend. Engraved brass toeplate and trigger guard. Highly figured tiger maple stock. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina, some corrosion at breech. Lock mostly cleaned bright and is a reconversion, functions well. Brass retains a pleasing mellow mustard patina. Small sections of trigger guard front finial and rear tang have been replaced. Stock shows some minor age or grain cracks. A piece has been professionally replaced behind ramrod entry ferrule. A very nice and attractive Kentucky longrifle.
