60.9cm nagasa of classic shinogi zukuri form, deeply curved, with horimono in the form of a hi. State of polish occludes temper and grain, but appears to be a form of midare, with areas of nie visible. Ubu nakago, cut and raised at least twice throughout its life, signed "Oshu Ju Kanemoto". Per Sesko's Index, one wordsmith signed this way circa 1854-1860, and as a student of a late generation (10th/11th) Aizu Kanesada; see pg. 140. Iriyamagata jiri with katte sagari yasurime. Cast tsuba with a dragon design. Fuchi and kashira with relief waves, and floral menuki. Saya with a ribbed upper quarter and vacant slot for a kozuka is protected by a leather slip. CONDITION: Sword is out of polish, with some micro chips along the cutting edge and mossing, mostly towards mune and in hi. Mounts with rubs and softened from age. Sa-me darkened en suite. Saya is good with some handling marks.
