September 10-12, 2024 Firearms & Militaria
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/11/2024
Lot consists of: (A) M1853/55 standard issue enlisted knapsack. (B) Nearly every soldier was issued a haversack to carry his rations and mess gear. This is the standard wartime federal pattern of tarred canvas with a fixed shoulder strap and flap secured by a leather billet and small roller buckle (this example has billet and buckle replaced). Haversacks themselves tend to be scarce. Compared to knapsacks, which survived in large crates in the inventories of military surplus dealers like Bannerman's, haversacks were used hard during the war and were also used up as they were valuable gear in civilian employ. CONDITION: Very good with age commensurate wear.
