John Edmonds is listed as follows: Edmonds, John August (1795-). gunsmith and schlossfeiler [lock filer]. 1792-1813, Plainfield Twp., Northampton County; 1814-25, Bushkill Twp., Northampton County. 1850, Bushkill Twp., gunsmith, age 55; wife Elizabeth, 54; 4 sons who were cigar makers. 1860, Haines Twp., Centre County, Edmonds, 65, gun smith, born in PA; wife Ruth, 69 [Census; tax].1861, Aaronsburg, Centre County [U.S. Census; Boyd's Pa. State Directory]. The octagon barrel is stamped on the top flat "J. EDMONDS" surrounded by 4 stars on each side. The lock features a roller frizzen and is stamped "J. EDMONDS / WARRANTED" in the center. Ornate and well-engraved brass and silver furniture. The engraved four-piece patchbox has 7 piercings. Floral-engraved toeplate extends from toe to rear triggerguard tang. There is an engraved brass warplane between the rearmost ramrod ferrule and the front triggerguard tang. There is also a three-stage engraved buttplate tang extension. Engraved silver oval barrel key escutcheons surround the brass keys. Engraved sideplate. Shaped and rocker-panel decorated silver inlay around barrel tang. Silver oval inlay above cheekpiece with an applied silver flower. Molded bone cheekpiece. Complete with a slightly short period wooden ramrod with horn tip. Figured tiger maple stock of Northampton County, Pennsylvania form. CONDITION: Dry and untouched attic-condition throughout. Barrel retains a brown patina with visible signature, rear sight is absent. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and works, dark patina and clear markings. Furniture retains a dark mustard patina. Stock is dry and retains much of its original finish. A very attractive untouched and signed Kentucky rifle.
