An 1875 pattern holster which has had been altered to prevent it from swiveling. The holster is constructed of black bridle leather and features a narrow flap. Front of the body is embossed with the letters "US" contained at the center of an oval. Leather plug is present. The belt loop is affixed to the holster body by a Hoffman swivel. This example has been modified with 2 rivets to prevent it from swiveling. This modification would prevent the holster from swiveling too far, resulting in a cavalryman loosing his revolver while in pursuit of a hostile. This holster also allowed the accommodation of the Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver, which the 1874 pattern holster did not, as it could only fit Colt revolvers. Light crazing throughout with sturdy construction and tight stitching. The entirety of the holster remains supple. A fine example of an Indian Wars holster. CONDITION: Good.
