A fine example of a prototype 1874 pattern swivel holster that is made from a modified Civil War holster. The holster is the standard M1860 holster that was famous for housing the 1860 Colt revolver. This example features the large flap on front with leather securing strap and brass finial. Leather plug is present. The holster is faintly marked "WATERVILIET / ARSENAL" on the belt loop. A Hoffman swivel is affixed to the holster and the original belt loop has been cut with both pieces sewn firmly to the back of the body to prevent interference of the swivel. The leather exhibits light crazing throughout with functioning flap and swivel. The holster remains sturdy and pliable. This example is featured on page 96 of US Military Holsters and Related Accoutrements by Edward Scott Meadows. CONDITION: Good.
