One of the scarcer textile items of the Civil War is the regulation blanket. These common items are scarce due to hard service and discarding during and after the war, especially since these blankets would have had use for the average home during and after the war. Constructed of woven brown wool, incorporating dark brown stripes on the upper and lower edges, and a stitched “US” in black wool in the center. Blanket measures approximately 78” x 68” overall with 3 - 1/2” wide stripes and 4 - 3/4” tall letters. Portions of both letter's stitching are worn off. There are scattered holes throughout with some area of stains. Edges exhibit fraying and the blanket was most likely shortened at 1 side. Regardless this is a seldom encountered textile from the Civil War. CONDITION: Fair.
Item Dimensions: 22" X 18"
