Manufactured by Shepard Hardware Co. Circa 1885. A very large and attractively pointed mechanical bank. Also notable as the only known mechanical bank that utilizes an educational theme. "Very amusing, also instructive. Figure in center receives coin in his hand and deposits it in the bank. All the letters of the alphabet and numbers from 1 to 26 inclusive are shown in rotation, also 26 different animals or objects with a short word for each letter." Difficult to find in nice paint condition because Shepard Hardware Co. did not prime their banks. Beautiful original condition. Working.
