Period sporterized with a cut 33" barrel, stock spliced and shortened to half. Springfield lock is dated 1851, not rifled. One of only 4000 made from 1851-1853. Walnut stock, VP eagle head proof on barrel, metal ramrod. It is documented that 300 of this model shipped to VMI, famous for their Confederate victory by boys of the school (May 10, 1864) with the guns ordered by Zachery Taylor in 1851. All were finished in the white. CONDITION: Good. All metal is freckled dark grey. Wood has some stress and age cracking , various dings and initials on left side. Bore is dark. Working condition
